Your Quick Guide to MacFarlane Park's annual special events and community activities. As you can see, a lot is going on!

 

5th Grade Clap Out. 5th graders' last day at MacFarlane Park is an emotional and momentous one. The entire school - students, families and staff members - take to the halls for a final goodbye to our students heading to their next adventures in middle school.

 

Academic Games. The first school wide event of the year, where our Explorers GO FOR THE GOLD! Participation is not mandatory but our experience is that our kids really run with this event, where they get to raise money showing their academic prowess. Auction. Held in the Spring. Family-friendly event to raise money for our school and students. You can bid on unique prizes and experiences, including Principal of the Day, Pizza Party, and much more!

 

BooHoo/ WooHoo Breakfast. Held in the Media Center on the first day of school. Walk your student to their classroom, then join the PTA and Administration for coffee and information about the upcoming school year.

 

Book Fair. Two Scholastic Book Fairs are held each year in the Fall and Spring. Students and caregivers are invited to visit the media center to shop at this week's book fair. Volunteers needed!

 

Book-O-Ween. An annual event held the morning of Halloween (or the closest school day to Halloween) where students dress up as a character from a favorite book. Students walk in a parade around the school campus and parents are invited to watch!

 

Conference Nights. Three conference nights are held throughout the year. On these nights, caregivers can schedule a time to sit-down with teachers and discuss student progress. Teachers are always available to discuss concerns, you do not need to wait until conference night to schedule a conference with you students teacher.

 

Health & Wellness Week and Field Day. Themed activities throughout the week and fun activities to promote physical and mental wellness.

 

Grandparents Day. All MacFarlane Park caregivers are invited to visit their student(s) classrooms before our International Day of Peace Assembly.

 

Great American Teach-in. Held in November, the Great American Teach-In allows parents and community members to come in and speak with students about their occupations, hobbies, or areas of interest. Although the Great American Teach-in focuses on giving students information on various careers, we encourage volunteers to speak about hobbies and areas of interest, organize an activity, read a story, or teach a class. 

 

Hispanic Heritage Month. MacFarlane Park students participate in various activities during September and October, culminating in a celebration with music, food, and activities honoring the Hispanic community's contributions and influence on American History.

 

"I See IB" Monthly Award. Each month, each PYP homeroom votes for the one student in their class that they believe best exemplifies that month’s IB characteristic.

 

International Day of Peace. An annual event held one day in September during the school day in the gym that includes student performances – songs, dances, poetry, etc. – parents are invited to attend. 

 
Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast. Our kindergartners’ first opportunity to show off their violin skills and is not to be missed! This event is held on the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break and includes a pot luck Thanksgiving brunch.
 

MacDaddies Grill. Our MacDaddies fire up the barbecue for our "I See IB" Award winners and their family members. Hosted Fall, Winter, and Spring during the student's normal lunch time. 

 

Meet the Teacher. Get ready for back-to-school and say hello to your new teacher and say hi to our Administration and PTA board. If you ordered our SchoolKits supply box in the Spring, it will be delivered to the class, or bring your school supplies with you to unpack in class.

 

Multicultural Night. An annual event held after school that showcases countries and cultures from around the world. Each class chooses a country and decorates their classrooms and may include food, clothing, music, crafts, etc., from that country. Students can get their “passports” stamped at each country!

 

Parent-led Community Celebrations. Parents are invited to share their cultural celebrations with the MacFarlane Park community throughout the year. Please share your ideas for celebrating your traditions with our school!

 

Reflections is a chance for our creatively minded students to compete for local and national recognition. Does your child sing, dance, write, draw or take photographs? This is the event for them! This is a National PTA program. 

 

School Beautification Day. Roll up your sleeves and come out to get MacFarlane Park ready for students. School Beautification Day is held each August!

 

Service Logs. Service Learning is a part of our IB curriculum. The ultimate goal is that our students, using IB Learner traits, will feel inspired to take action and make a difference in the world. When they do, they fill out a Service Log to help them reflect on their action. 

 

Spirit Days. Students can wear a MacFarlane Park Spirit Shirt every Friday, including club and Field Day shirts. Uniform bottoms are required on spirit days. Review the dress code here.

 

Spirit Nights. MacFarlane Park is all about community. The PTA and MacDaddies hosts several off-campus spirit nights throughout the year. These events are an opportunity to get to know one another. Look out for Spirit Night announcements throughout the year.

 

Spring Strings Concert is the first chance for the whole school to perform together, with the kindergartners joining grades 1-5 in a really fun night of song and music at Jefferson High.

 

STEAM Night. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math are showcased throughout this evening of wild experiments, technological feats, and hands-on projects. 

 

Student Initiated IB Projects. Students can propose grade-level and community IB projects to the administration and teachers throughout the year. These projects are student-led and community-supported. Past projects have included a Thanksgiving food drive, Community Garden upgrades, Christmas gift drive, and Winter Coat Drive.

 

Veterans Program. We honor Military Veterans each year by inviting them to join us to honor their service. We invite those who are currently serving or have served to attend.

 

Winter Carnival. Traditional school carnival where each class plans and operates a game booth with prizes. This a fabulous Friday evening for our families to enjoy music, food and games. We will also have a Service booth to help give back!

 

Winter Strings Concert. Grades 1-5, held at Jefferson High School, is a wonderful celebration of the winter holidays and a showcase for our students’ violin expertise.
